Color Story: Red & Black

A few of our favorite things for the day:

Dress by Victoria Beckham, Chandelier by Stonegate, Rug by Safavieh, Settee by Michael Weiss.

Thom Felicia Furniture

You are probably familiar with Thom Felicia from "Queer Eyes for the Straight Guys".  Do you remember that show?  We kinda miss it from time to time.  We don't know any straight guy who watched it though, only straight girls, hoping to fix up their men...

Anyway, Thom Felicia is getting to be a major licensing house.  He's doing rugs for Safavieh, fabric for Kravet etc.  The latest is a furniture collection from Vanguard Furniture.  It's quite lovely and original.

Take a look:

You can see the rest of the collection here. If you need help with pricing, drop us a line.

Fabulous Graphic Wallpapers

We often wish we were more adventurous than we actually are.  Our home is quite boring-- for people who are in the furnishings business.  More often than not, it consists of returns, overstock and miscellaneous things that we can't sell in the store.  It looks like a darn garage sale, actually.

Okay, so maybe we're exaggerating a little...

But we do play it a bit safe with just plain colors, solid and textures.  This is why we live our fantasies via this blog.  We just love showing you things that are whimsical and fun.

Like these wallpapers from F Schumacher, for example...

This one is called Bird and Butterflies pattern 2704420.

This one is called New York Pattern 26340

This one is called Aviary pattern 2705511

Our favorite, this one is called Train Pattern 2703940

This one is called Balloon, Patter 2704320

These wallpapers run about $180-200 per roll, not cheap right?  But you can get it for less at our F Schumacher wallpapers section (usually 30-40% off the listed prices).

New Home Accessories for Spring

We just uploaded a ton of new home accessories on our store. Here's a quick sampling:

All can be found on the home decor section on the front page.  If you have time, please come visit!

Where Did You Get That?

We thought we start a new feature called "where did you get that"?  This is because many times we browse through a picture of something that we like, be it clothes or furniture or anything else, only to find the source not listed.

Does that happen to you?

In this feature, we'll do our best to show you where to get this stuff.  Some of the stuff might be things we carry, some might be other stores.  We'll hope you'll find it helpful!

The first one is from Lonny Magazine (have you seen it? It's quite fabulous).  The blue stool can be found here in various colors.  It costs $288 with free shipping.

Pretty and Chic Furniture for Smaller Spaces

We found this adorable line at the Las Vegas Market a couple of years back and we thought we share it with you.  They make really cute, adorable furniture that are smaller in scale --quite perfect if you have a small apartment or condo to furnish.   The furniture usually comes in neutral colors, which makes it easy to accessorize.  They are quite stylish and inexpensive.

Here are a few samples:

The occasional chair runs about $600, sofa is about $1500, chair about $300, bed about $1600. They have a huge web site that you can browse through here. If you need help with pricing let us know (Sunpan only sells wholesale). Shipping cost for furniture is usually high, so we don't recommend buying just one or two pieces. Usually shipping costs will exceed the price of the item.

Contemporary Kitchenware from Rosendahl

If you have a really sleek & modern kitchen and you want the right kitchenware to go with it, check out the line from Rosendahl. Based in Denmark, they make contemporary European kitchenware that are very, very cool..

Here are some samples:

You can check out the rest of the line here.

Admiring: Lauren Greenfield

Have you seen the work of Lauren Greenfield? If not, you should check her out. A photographer and a documentary film maker, her work is very celebral, on social subjects that are, oh God, we hate using the word "thought provoking", as it is SO over used, but perhaps it's the most apt.

But you don't have to get deep if you don't want to. Here is a great video done by Lauren Greenfield on NY Fashion week for New York Magazine. It's really fun to watch.

For more info on her work, check out the web site here.

So brilliant!

Adorable Recycle Bags

We are loving these recycle bags from 18 Karats.  Bright and colorful, you can use them as gift bags also.

These bags run about $7.50-10 each. You can buy them directly at the 18karat web site.

Fabulous Lighting from Jonathan Adler

One of the biggest challenges we face as a small online retailer is finding good stuff to buy.  It's so hard, let us tell you.  We have to find things that are inexpensive enough, pretty enough, and nice enough in person so when the customers receive them, they'll be happy.

You think it's easy?

Ha!

Fortunately the lamps from Robert Abbey fit those criterias.  They are so well-made and well-priced, we never have been disappointed.

Here are some fabulous pieces from the Jonathan Adler collection for Robert Abbey:

These items will be posted on our site soon!

Loft Living

The LA Times has an article on loft living that's worth checking out. It features four lofts in the Toy Factory building, done four different ways.   The one shown below is our favorite.  It's so unique!

You can check out the rest of the feature here.

Pretty Cocktail Ottomans

We love, love using cocktail ottomans instead of cocktail tables.  It's a much softer look, plus you have more versatility with it.  For example, if you were to get bored with it you can always upholster it, put nailhead trims around it, change the fabric on it, make it tufted or untutfed...You get the idea.

Here are some that we kinda like from Jessica Charles.  They run between $900-1000 depending on fabric.

This round cocktail ottoman is our favorite.  You can get it skirted, or un-skirted as shown below.

If you like to design your own, Vanguard Furniture has a good program for personalized, customized ottoman. You can find it here.   Contact us if you need help with it.

Cool Architect Desk for Small Offices

We were looking for an interesting, cool, and most importantly, cheap desk for a small home office and came accross this one. It's similiar to the one at Williams Sonoma but it's less expensive. It's so adorable in person too...

The desk is small (about 60W by 30H), which makes it perfect for a small space.  It costs $850 including shipping.  It is manufactured by Bailey Street.  You can find it here.

Some ideas for items that would help complete the office:

Rug from Mats-The Basics

Jonathan Adler Table Lamp

Here are some pictures from Willams Sonoma (love that store!). that shows the desk in room settings:

Cute Housewares from Alice Supply Company

Household products are so utilitarian, aren't they?  We don't give them too much thoughts. But why not?  Little things like a cool toilet plunger is like a cool pocket tie on a man.  It's very telling, don't you think?

We ran accross this line at the New York Gift Show and thought they were so cute...

Check it out:

You can find these items and more directly at the Alice & Co web site. They run between $15-60/each.

Very Cool Modern Rugs from Mats-The Basics

We found a  really great rug line that we just have to share with you. Despite the clunky name, they make wonderful modern rugs that are stylish yet clean-lined and simple. That's so hard to find, don't you think so?   Many contemporary rugs are a bit too austere, too severe perhaps.

Here are some of our favorites:

The rugs runs between $500 for a 5x7 to $1500 for a 8 x 12.  They are very well-made too.  Most are made with 100% New Zealand wool, hand-tufted.

We'll be loading these up on our rugs section next week, so please check back soon.
